Our Mission: The WCCD is a local government agency with the mission to assist residents with and provide leadership in the conservation, management, and wise use of natural resources in Washtenaw County. Grant Purpose: Assist schools and community organizations with accessing plants, especially natives, and establishing wildlife habitat. Grant Award: The WCCD staff and/or our partnering contractors, as requested by the awardees and within the award budget, may provide any combination of the following:

Application Submission Deadline and Evaluation: All grant applications must be submitted by the deadline and meet requirements outlined in the application and the "SCHG Overview" PDF (above), which details the complete requirements, including the rubric used in evaluating the projects by the selection committee. Grant Recipient Responsibilities Summary: Please read "SCHG Overview" PDF (above) for full details. Exact responsibilities depend on the requests made by the applicant.
Reporting & Documentation What is considered Native? We use the Ann Arbor Natural Areas Preservation description of native plants as “plants that were here before Europeans settled in Michigan in the 1700s”. Assistant Professor Lisa DuRussel and her graduate students at UM SEAS' Master of Landscape Architecture program have volunteered their design services and labor to help create functional and inspirational spaces! Lisa's practice, Site Science, focuses on research-based design and implementation strategies that integrate deep ecological design principles and amplifies collaborative action with deep community engagement.
